Most of what is written about the Khumbu is about getting to Everest Base Camp. Sagarmatha.com exists to describe the park as a place: its mountains and glaciers, its forests and animals, its Sherpa villages and monasteries, and the many ways of visiting that do not involve Base Camp at all.
What we cover
- The park itself — history, boundaries, permits, rules and how it is managed.
- Peaks, glaciers, wildlife and forests, and how the climate is changing them.
- Sherpa culture: villages, gompas, festivals and etiquette.
- Routes beyond the classic trek — Gokyo, the Three Passes, short Everest-view treks, Ama Dablam Base Camp, Thame.
- Helicopter tours, mountain flights, getting there and where to stay.
How we research
We check fees, rules, flight arrangements and prices against official sources, operators and booking platforms, and review them regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel scores from Trip.com. Where figures move around — permit fees, lodge prices, the enforcement of the guide rule — we give ranges and say so, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.
Nothing on this site replaces medical advice. Talk to a doctor about altitude before you go, and follow your guide’s judgement on the trail.
Independence
Sagarmatha.com is not the official website of Sagarmatha National Park and is not affiliated with the Government of Nepal, UNESCO or any trekking agency.
How the site is funded
We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. There is no advertising, no sponsored placement and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Fees change, rules evolve and lodges change hands. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us on the contact page — we would rather fix it than defend it.
